As promised, here we go! Unfortunately as you might have imagined by now the development of the project suffered a major step back two months ago and the progress was almost halted. We continued to progress everyday but the pace was very slow, it became impossible to predict when we would be able to go beta.
I have to confess that when I first started I had no idea of the sheer dimension of what I was getting into. I have worked on hundreds of projects through the years, some of them were technically complex but nothing quite like this.
Fortunately all of these mishaps are a thing of the past, during the last month we have reached a stage of the project where every major functionality has been developed and is in place, and we are very close to entering our beta testing phase.
I don’t think I have ever written about this, but the project was intended to be released on the 5th of November 2010, and coincidently one year later it’s the exact release date.
This date has a lot of personal meaning to me, and it is the definite “do or break
I am aware of how long it has been since the last update, but a major update is going to be released today, fixing the main issue that has been affecting our project at the moment, site speed!
Will keep you posted and will circulate an update soon!
With this last installment of the Harry Potter saga, fans went hog wild standing in crazy lines. Waiting in anticipation to get first dibs on tickets for the sure to be sold out release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part 2; fans showed their devotion.
I know personally, I could not get my hands on tickets anywhere I looked, called or begged. So much for that movie review!!
So, I thought it would be fun to look at all the fan videos and craziness and pretend like I was a part of this epic last film! Enjoy the video below of some of the fans in the DC area hoping to get some Harry Potter tickets.
New MGM co-chairs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum say the movie will start shooting in late 2011 for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.
Daniel Craig will resume the role of Bond, James Bond for the new flick. Good….he is a sexy Mr. Bond!
Also returning to the Director’s chair is Sam Mendes. Screenwriter Peter Morgan (Hereafter) left the film after delivering a treatment off his original idea; Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan took over. OH!!! and who could forget Dame Judy Dench??! She returns to the role of “M.”
I think I am going to love this film!!! Check out the video below with Daniel Craig as Bond and feel the anticipation of Bond 23!!
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the site’s release date has been moved to the 20th of July, coincidently the same day Armstrong walked on the moon. We did our best to comply with our first commitment, but as the release date approaches it became more evident that while it was possible to release the site on the day, it was not going to be released the way it should, fully tested and bug free.
As many of you have noticed by now our Twitter account was suspended yesterday.
Unfortunately we overused Twitter’s API with automatism tools that caused unnecessary strain on their servers. It is one of those situations where we only have ourselves to blame and it’s completely understandable why Twitter would suspend an account that is using more resources than it should.
We are working with Twitter in order to restore our account as soon as possible. If everything goes well we should expect to see the account back up next week.
Update: Our account was officially restored 5 days after it was suspended.
We just reached 10.000 followers! What an amazing number so early in the project, would like to thank every single one of you who are following us and supporting the project. We have had really fantastic reactions from our twitter fans, and many of them have joined and became active members of our blog and community. Unfortunately we are not having the same traction in our Facebook page, but hopefully things will start picking up very soon on that front as well.
I have the pleasure to announce a new addition to our editorial team.
Unfortunately as with most start-ups, Ourplot does not have a lot budget to go around, and I am ecstatic with how much we have been able to do acomplish with to the sheer enthusiasm shown by everyone that is part of this project. Katy, thanks for joining us so early in the project and we hope to have you on board for a long time.
I do encourage everyone to visit Katy’s fantastic Movie Review blog.
It was clear from the beginning how important it was to have a system in place to evaluate the quality of the reviews, but I didn’t want the criteria to be determined by specific groups of users or by any type of automated system. So the idea is to let the community decide what’s good and what’s not, but even more interesting, what truly deserves to be mentioned and what deserves to be thrown to the oblivion.
The concept was all there but needed a little push that to materialize it and take it up a notch, my friend Rui Avelar helped me take this to a new level.
I have had a lot of people ask me if this blog is temporary until he site is released, the answer is no. This blog will be part of the main site, and it’s a permanent part of the project.
It will not suffer a lot changes in terms of functionality or even in the design, as a matter of fact the blog was designed in conjunction with the site so if you are wondering how the main site is going to look like, well the blog is a very good preview of how we approached it.
There is however one important aspect that will chance once the site is up, and it’s got to do with the Blogs commentator’s profiles.
When you are logged in the main site, if you post a comment the blog will recognize your information and will use your profile ID from main site. Another interesting side to this has to do with one of our main algorithmic concepts, called “user weight ratio”.
Not every member will have the same “importance
